School Visits
I am available for in person visits for Years 2-4 on Monday’s only during term time. My event is fun and interactive. After reading a story together we’ll learn how I became a writer. Then we’ll talk about our favourite memories, do some drawing and learn an animal action dance together or play some rhyming games.
I also offer classroom-based workshops for Years 5-6 either in addition to an assembly, or as stand-alone sessions. In these sessions I talk about creating memorable characters and structuring stories.
I am also available for story reading, drawing and signing sessions in bookshops.
If you’d like to book an author visit, please get in touch using the form on the Contacts page or email info@mariesadulak.com
The Diverse Bookshelf
I didn’t read a book featuring a character that looked like me until I was a teenager. So, I’m passionate about diversity in children’s books. I think it’s crucial that children see themselves and their families represented in the stories they read. But I also think it’s important to expose ALL children to a diverse range of characters. As a librarian I have seen how this can make a difference. If a child’s bookshelf reflects the society we live in, it can help children stop seeing colour and difference as ‘other’ and just see a child character like them with a story to tell.
